Falling Through Morocco
Just for the record I never intended on hitching through Morocco. I met my so called travel mentor, Jose, at a hostel in Chefcheoune, the blue city of Morocco. Jose is a 44 year old ex veteran for the United States Army Sky Diving team. Up to the time I had met him, he had been travelling for 4 years, occasionally he would visit home for 2 months at a time and soon would get right back on the road. Over a few joints of pure moroccan hash he went into further detail about his extraordinary travel stories. As we continued smoking into the night I was in completely infatuated by Jose’s adventures, from hitchhiking through Central America, spending time with local indigenous families in Mexico and injuring himself severely whilst attempting to climb mount Everest. Each story was infinitely better than any other story I had heard before. All I could think was “fuck… I want to be in this guy's stories”.

On Language, All That
1) Swahili has increasingly grown on me. The fruit song is as catchy as the "jambo jambo." Sometimes it flows through me, and my pronunciation is noticeably different from that of my peers, being filtered through my Spanish-speaking tongue positions. Jo says you are so incredible! You learn so fast! She is always so encouraging. I have always wanted to learn a third language, and hence I have flirted with French ever since the fourth grade. But after all these years I have still not taken a formal course, and with nobody to practice with, hence je ne parlais pas (I did not speak in French). A few Swahili crash courses and I was up and running. Practicing a language is such a big part of learning. It unravels world views and the things one takes for granted.

Johannesburg and the Little Case of Anxiety
I moved back to Gauteng about two years ago, but I never made it a mission to see old friends and acquaintances. I now live in Tshwane, and Joburg seems like a different beast right now. Listen, after two years in Cape Town, life inland does become a bit claustrophobic. I mean where is the ocean and mountains to hike inland? I'm joking, but life's way too fast here.

9 Reasons Why You Shouldn't Visit Africa. Top Story - October 2019.
Africa is one of the most misunderstood and underrated regions in the world. The continent that is often mistaken for a country. The number one place people think of when the word "poverty" is mentioned. The region of the world where people know more about its animals than the locals there. One might wonder "why on earth should I visit a country in Africa?" "I’ve watched the Lion King, I know what Africa is all about." "I don’t want to see poor people… I don’t think Africa is worth my money."

A Dream Realized (Part 3)
MASAI MARA This is what we have been waiting for; looked forward to most. Here is where we expect to see more animals than we have so far and we are not disappointed. This is what I expect to be the crown jewel of the trip. I never thought this would ever be possible and yet, here I am. We are about to embark on several days of game drives and other unexpected, treats. Our accommodations are at the Mara Safari Tent Camp, which sits right on an oxbow of the Mara River at the foot of the Aitong Hills and is just outside the boundary of the Masai Mara. Although bigger (more people) than I expect and a bit more “civilized” than I anticipated, the tents are just about what I expected, perhaps a bit nicer. I thought we would dine outside, under the stars, in an intimate setting, but the dining room is much like all the others, very nice and indoors. I think I would have liked the smaller, more rustic atmosphere, but nothing can take away from the wonder that is the Mara. At one point, we took our lunches out to sit by the pool. This place is just beautiful.
