Thoughts of a Dead Person
These are the things I think after I am dead. Or perhaps I think them all in those final seconds. Whichever it is, it doesn't matter. I am adrift from all concept of time. The latter would feel like the former.

When Dad saw the dragonling on the kitchen table, he did a double-take. I didn't think people did those in real life. Took his glasses off, cleaned them, put them back on. The whole bit. Got close, drinking in every scale. His eyes, already huge behind his glasses, looked even bigger.

The Baby
I didn't see the dragonling at first, tiny as he was, and camouflaged to look leaf-like. A young branch curled up away from its trunk, and around into a circle. The forest viewed through it looked strange, like it was a badly-focused camera lens. I was puzzling at that when the "leaf" moved and I saw him. Clinging to that curved twig: there's his tail, his spine, his head cocked and looking right at me.

A Motherless Child
I was a motherless child, then a childless mother. There's symmetry in that, no? And then there was her, and she was a motherless child as well. Maybe that is why something in her sang to me, and why my heart vibrated with it.

A Visit to Nana's
