Where Did Your Light Go?

Grief haiku

Where did your light go?

Feels like you were never here

My grief never ends.

*

This sad September

Will mark five dreary years since

your light extinguished.

*

But I remember

The day I received the news

just like yesterday.

*

Your heart stopped beating

during COVID, home alone;

Death you dreaded most.

*

Found some hours later,

You were cold but looked at peace,

Mom said on the phone.

*

Ocean miles away,

I couldn't attend your wake,

To me you're not dead.

*

I reject the thought

But I know you're gone for good;

From this life of mine.

*

Grief is like a wound:

Never heals, ever sore, rough

scars on the edges.

*

Life goes on; new things

and events make memories

hard to hold on to.

*

Your face is a blur

Your voice - a distant echo,

Good times are vivid.

*

One day I'll join you

Hope you find me in the sea

Of incoming lights.

*

Till then, I'll cherish

Your memories and pictures.

You are always there.
