the blackcurrant joy

a Shakespearean sonnet

I will drown in their refreshin’ juices

tiny bits of seeds on my tongue, teeth, lips

the palate relishes its finesse fete

fatten enormously in its own gown

*

it reminds me of a berry hunt, hot

summer in my garden later, mouth stuffed

with raspberry, strawberry, cherry taste –

complementin’ an unusual trip

*

all the shadows from behind the tall trees

could not be irradiated by the truth

at the root of all this philosophy

of not bein’ involved in greedy myths

*

tell me now, god of nature, if you dare

is it justice, got stuck in my throat, fierce?
