Not Today Satan

Don't test me! Plain and simple speaking.

By Novel AllenPublished 11 days ago Updated 11 days ago 2 min read

I’m writing this in the plainest language possible---you asked for no metaphor, no symbolism, no indirection---just the truth of the feeling, stated outright.

People have pissed me off.

This is a direct poem of pure and simple defiance

I am angry today. Brimming over with it.

I am tired of being tested.

I am fed up with every demand, every interruption, every expectation.

Tired of every ungrateful relative and their affiliates

I am not in the mood to be patient or gracious or forgiving.

I am not pretending to be calm.

I am not pretending to be okay.

I am naming exactly what is happening:

I am irritated, overwhelmed, and unwilling to take on one more thing.

If anything or anyone tries to push me, I will consummately push back.

SO! Not today. Not today!!!!!!!!

If anything, anyone, tries to provoke me, I will not yield.

I am drawing a clear line:

Cross it at your peril---

Not today.

Not one more test.

Not one more burden.

I am standing here, fully aware of my anger,

don't expect me to be ashamed of it.

Neither am I apologising for it.

I am telling the world directly:

I am done being polite about my limits.

......

I am irritated on every level today.

I am not hiding it, softening it, or pretending it’s “just a mood.”

I am fully aware that I am one inconvenience away from snapping at the innocent air.

I am not accepting feedback, suggestions, or pep talks.

I am not available for emotional labor, customer service, or small talk.

I am telling the universe directly:

Do not test me.

Do not send me a “character-building challenge.”

Do not give me a “growth opportunity.”

I am not in the market for personal development.

I am in the market for silence and people leaving me alone.

If Satan himself showed up today,

I would tell him to take a blasted hike...

and wait behind the other nonsense already trying me.

I am not impressed by his résumé.

I am not impressed by your résumé.

I am not intimidated by his energy.

I am not intimidated by your energy.

I am not negotiating with chaos.

I am annoyed, I am tired, and I am not pretending otherwise.

I am stating this clearly so no one misunderstands:

I am done being polite about my limits.

I am done being patient with nonsense.

I am done pretending I’m fine when I’m obviously not.

Today is not the day.

Tomorrow doesn’t look good either!

NOT TODAY NOR TOMORROW! Nope.

Definitely not!

This ended up being quite funny, especially towards the end.. I’d hate to bother you on one of these days! 😅🤣 Very creative, good interpretation of the prompt and zany!

this is absolutely outstanding and totally cathartic, even as a reader, so I imagine writing it must have felt great! I think I needed to read this exact thing right now, so thank you for crafting it :)
