About this challenge
For the first time ever, Vocal is co-sponsoring a creator-led challenge in honor of International Women's Day and it's open to ALL Vocal creators. Voices in Minor (ViM) has a new ‘ChallAnge’- a challenge directly related to women. You can stay up-to-date with Voices in Minor by joining their Facebook Group here.
The Prompt
In 600-800 words, write about a woman (en) who has inspired you for ‘International Woman's Day’ this Year of the Dragon 2024.

Whether it be the inspiration and passionate voice of Maya Angelou, the resilience of Nobel Laureate Malala Yousafza or the quiet enduring strength of a cherished Grandmother, we all have a woman or women in our lives that have been beside us in one way or another. Whether that be through nurturing care, words of wisdom or a compelling voice that reached out in the dark... we want to learn about the female that was beside you as you navigated your life journey.
ViM chose the title, ‘The Dragon Beside Me’ because the dragon represents strength, love and determination, mixed with a little sprinkle of enigmatic magic dust.

In order for your submission to qualify, it must be:
- Between 600-800 words.
You can submit any genre or format and place in the community of your own choosing.
Judging
- Vocal will review the entries and create a shortlist.
- ViM will select the 2 co-grand prize winners and 10 runners-up from the shortlist.

How to enter
For your story to be eligible, it should be between 600 and 800 words, and adhere to our Community Guidelines. Stories published on Vocal and entered into the contest up until 11:59 PM ET on March 11th, 2024 will be entered for consideration. Official Rules for the Challenge can be found here.
The Dragon Beside Me Challenge is open to all Vocal members.
To be eligible to win the grand prize, second place, or runners-up prizes, you must be over the age of 13 and residing in a country where Stripe is available at the time of entry. A complete list of countries where Stripe is available can be found here—winners will need to have a Stripe account created and connected in order to receive the prizes. For this reason, entrants located outside of any of these countries will not be eligible to win.
